Excuse the quiet; we rolled from finishing the Harpers Island spots straight into Oscars Red Carpet, followed by a much needed break. Apparently it’s now March, and Autodesk has bought Softimage, vinyl is not dead, it actually rains in Southern California, and the economy is still a bit of a wreck. Thats the news, and with that, we’ll just keep on keeping on.
Btw – if you’d ever like to try out a self-induced heart attack, try the Oscars. It’s fun, in a cynical and deeply sarcastic way.

A new spot I directed is airing tonight on the Grammys. It’s for a new CBS show caled Harpers Island that starts a 13 week run in April.
Check it out on my site.

Joshua Tree, today at sunset.

Taking the holiday to get a few thousand photos together. These are part of a series that I shot a few years ago in a prison museum in Philadelphia.

Excuse the silence; things got real busy. Just directed a new spot that will show up on the airwaves in a couple of months. Can’t really say much about it other than it involves a red carpet and a very large soft light. That, and the footage looks fucking amazing. That’s a technical term.

A promo I shot for a new CBS show – “The Ex List” should be hitting the airwaves any minute now. It comes in :60 and :30 flavors, so collect them all.
Shot on a RED One camera on Sony’s backlot with 50 extras and a lot of flowers, it was a long day. Still, the client is happy, we remembered to take the lens cap off the camera, and the footage rocks. It’s all good.
You can see the spot on my site, or view some behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot.

Spore is finally out today, after years of work. You should buy it because it’s cool, and because I directed the main titles to the game along with a documentary “The Making of Spore” that comes with the extra-fancy “Galactic Edition”.
A little bit (well actually a lot) of new work for Prudential Financial. Nearly three minutes of animation to promote a new financial instrument (coming soon). We worked with an illustrator out on the big island of Hawaii – the lucky guy watches his secret surf break from his studio – then took his illustrations into XSI to rig characters and build the camera moves. Like this one a lot as it keeps a 2D illustrated look but has the depth and parallax of a 3D world.
Lots of lost sleep on this one – 4500 frames or so of animation in two weeks. Lots of love out to Matty Young, the XSI champ who kept an even keel in the face of over-caffineation.

Just got done with a spec Evian spot for a new director Matteo. We did lots + lots + lots of color correction in Shake (we’ve got that down like the back of your Daddy’s hand, kiddo), shot a series of light refractions and confusion-circles, and built a bottle in XSI for refraction passes and effects. All that and a load of compositing + its looking good. All the blue fizzy stuff is us.
